Our mission

Outdoor gear is expensive, heavy, and hard to return. A grill or a fire table is a decision people live with for five to ten years, and most of the information available online is either a thin list of affiliate links or a spec sheet copied from a manufacturer’s site.

Our mission is simple: do the reading so you don’t have to, then resolve every guide to one clear recommendation with one clear reason. We also tell you who the recommendation is wrong for, because a guide that suits everybody suits nobody.

How this started

Ember Terrace was founded in 2024 after one badly researched purchase. A fire table arrived without a fitted cover, spent a winter collecting water in the burner pan, and never lit reliably again. The information needed to avoid that outcome existed — it was buried in owner reviews, warranty documents, and clearance guidance nobody reads.

That is the gap this site exists to close. We collect the published evidence for a category, read the owner reports at volume, look for the failure that repeats rather than the review that shouts, and publish what we find in plain language.

The site is run by the Ember Terrace editorial team. We are researchers and writers, not a manufacturer, retailer, or product testing laboratory.

What we cover

Our work is organised into four areas, and every article on the site belongs to one of them.

• Gear guides and comparisons — ranked shortlists and head-to-head calls across grills, smokers, fire tables, draft equipment and terrace furniture.
• Reviews — single-product deep reads, including the sections most sites leave out: where owner reports disagree, and what the research could not settle.
• Grilling and smoking techniques — heat control, fuel behaviour, smoke, timing, and the mistakes that ruin a cook.
• Setup, cleaning and maintenance — assembly, placement, seasonal storage, covers, cleaning routines, and knowing when to repair instead of replace.

How we research — and why you can trust it

Every recommendation on Ember Terrace is built from secondary research. We draw on three source types, and we label which one a claim came from wherever it matters.

• Manufacturer specifications. Published spec sheets, manuals and warranty documents. Dimensions, output, materials, fuel requirements, and the terms a brand commits to in writing.
• Published standards and documentation. Safety and certification guidance, clearance distances, pressure ratings, load limits, and handling requirements for gas and CO2 equipment.
• Verified owner reports. Buyer reviews from verified purchases, read at volume and across retailers. We look for the fault that appears repeatedly rather than any single strong opinion.

Where you see a confidence score on a guide, it describes how settled the research is — how complete the specifications are, how clear the published standards are, and how consistently owner reports agree. It is not a measurement of a product we handled.

What we don’t do

• We do not test products in our own hands, and we never imply that we have.
• We do not accept payment in exchange for a placement, a ranking, or a favourable verdict.
• We do not rank products by commission rate.
• We do not publish a recommendation we cannot source, and we say so when the research is thin.
• We do not use urgency devices, countdown timers, or manufactured scarcity of any kind.

How we make money

Ember Terrace is funded by affiliate commissions. When you follow a link from one of our guides to a retailer and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Ember Terrace is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program.

Corrections and contact

Specifications change, models get discontinued, and we make mistakes. If you find something wrong, tell us and we will correct it and note the correction on the page.
